Following on from the BAFTA winning BBC comedy, Mrs. Agnes Brown (Brendan O’Carroll) takes the family on tour for a new live show: Mrs Brown Rides Again.
Filmed at Liverpool’s Echo Arena, the action takes place within a familiar lounge and kitchen setting. The entire cast is reunited on stage, all getting a chance to shine in their own sub-plots. In addition to all planning a surprise birthday for Mrs Brown, Cathy (Jennifer Gibney) is dating a psychiatrist who is keen to study her mum, Mrs Brown’s best friend Winnie (Eilish O’Carroll) is concerned for her husband Jacko in hospital, Buster (Danny O’Carroll) tries to drag Dermot (Paddy Houlihan) into another yet dodgy scam, and Rory (Rory Cowan) is considering adopting a child with his boyfriend.
Some of the best bits of the TV series are also recreated on stage, but the live show still manages to feel fresh despite returning to into familiar territory.
The brilliance of Mrs Brown’s Boys has always been that the cast genuinely seem to have a lot of fun, regularly breaking into laughter between lines of dialogue. Everyone is on top form here and seemingly just as surprised by some of Mrs Brown’s improved antics as the audience.
The writing is sharp, the laughter infectious and Ireland’s feistiest pensioner is funnier than ever. Mrs Brown Rides again is comedy gold and highly recommended!
