Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike), Behind The Candelabra tells the story of flamboyant 1980s pianist Liberace (Michael Douglas) and his relationship with personal assistant Scott Thorson (Matt Damon).
When Scott is introduced to Liberace by Hollywood producer Bob Black (Scott Bakula), he eagerly leaves his old life behind for the glitz and glamour of show business. Set over several years, Scott is taken under the wing of Liberace, and as their relationship blossoms, under the covers too. What follows are the wondrous highs and dramatic lows of their opulent relationship.
Rob Lowe delivers a career best performance as plastic surgeon to the stars Dr. Jack Starz. With a face as taught as it is tanned, each of his scenes is a particular highlight. As the years progress and more work is done, Douglas and Damon's characters undergo incredible physical transformations of their own.
Also appearing are Dan Aykroyd as Seymour Heller, Paul Reiser as Scott's Attorney, and Debbie Reynolds as Frances Liberace.
Both Michael Douglas and Matt Damon show great versatility in their respective roles, bravely leaving little to the imagination. Behind The Candelabra is a must-see biopic with fantastic performances across the board. A fascinating glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and feel a little more fabulous for it!
