Animax is a new service offering unlimited anime Movies and TV shows. Content is available to stream online at AnimaxTV.co.uk or via an app on Playstation 3.
Shows are available in their original language or dubbed into English. A monthly subscription costs £5.99 but you can enjoy a two-week trial for free.
For the curious, there's also a number of free simulcasts to watch, though for a newcomer it isn't entirely clear what some of the shows actually are without playing them. "Episode 21" of what? Once the user-interface has been refined though, I'm sure this will be improved.
TV shows include the likes of Black Lagoon, Nura: Rise Of The Yokai Clan, Tiger and Bunny, Bakuman, Maoyu, Princess Jellyfish, Death Note and Vampire Night and Persona 4. With seemingly thousands of episodes available, there is surely something to suit all tastes.
There is also a variety of films on offer, such as Street Fighter II, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc, Mardock Scramble: The First Compression and The Second Combustion, plus all of the feature length episodes and three seasons of Bleach. Though it would be good to see more movies added as the service grows.
Content is browsable by genres, including action, adventure, comedy, drama, fantasy, movies, romance and thriller. Or you can simply search once you know what you are looking for.
Undoubtedly Animax's best feature is that new HD episodes are added shortly after they have aired in Japan. All of the shows that I watched were beautifully animated with high production values. For added flavour, I also enjoyed watching them in their native Japanese with subtitles.
Animax is off to a strong start with a great line-up of shows. For existing fans or newcomers, this is the perfect platform to enjoy and discover anime. With a two-week trial on offer too, you can't really go wrong!
